Our Philosophy of Ministry

Flowing from these principles, we emphasize three core ministries at the Kirk:

WE REACH UP TO GOD IN WORSHIP

We believe God saves us for the purpose of worship. Our worship exults in the supremacy and centrality of God in Christ Jesus and flows from the timeless principles of His Word. Because of this conviction, preaching stands at the heart of our worship service.

Our preaching is both expositional and applicatory. Because it takes a whole Bible to make whole Christians, we work sequentially through entire books of the Scripture (both Old and New Testaments).

In response the congregation engages in a rich tradition of fervent prayer, joyful reverence in worship, and sacrificial tithing to the God who loves the cheerful giver.

WE REACH INTO THE CHURCH FOR PASTORAL MINISTRY

The Kirk is led by a Session of elders who oversee the spiritual growth of the congregation. We exist to equip the Saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4;12).

We believe the family is the basic building block of both Church and State. As such, we focus on building strong and healthy families led by godly men with sharp minds, tender hearts, and firm hands who are equipped to provide loving leadership to their wives and to raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

We encourage our families to worship together every day and to gather together with the church on the Lord’s Day.

Our pastor meets regularly with men to encourage their (or to prepare them for) leadership in the home. This discipleship occurs in both a one-on-one and in a small group basis. Currently, two groups of men meet each week to discuss reading assigned by the pastor.

The Session also oversees a vibrant ministry to ladies through the Women in Church (WIC). This minstry is carried out through the labors of appointed female officers and includes: the Daughter’s of Sarah weekly Bible study, a weekly small group discipleship group, helping to organize the regular fellowship meals and events for the congregation, attending to the needs of the sick and shut-ins (including alternate day meals to those convalescing from surgery, child birth, etc.), not to mention a host of other ministries aimed at developing our women’s burden for and ability to minister to the Kirk, our local parrish, and our fields of world mission.

WE REACH OUT TO THE WORLD IN GOSPEL OUTREACH

As we said earlier, our ministry only begins in Savannah, but it reaches for the world. Remembering this, we are building a vibrant evangelism program to reach the South side of Savannah.

This includes regular children’s ministry and will soon encompass home Bible studies to which our congregation can invite seekers to hear and be challenged by the claims of Christ.

Building on these efforts, our Deacons engage in a diligent ministry to the needy of Savannah. This year, their ministry has already born considerable fruit in the life of at least one homeless man. The congregation also engages in a considerable effort at world evangelism supporting Christian missions in Savannah, Haiti, the Middle East, London, and the international Jewish community. Our goal is to dedicate 25% of our budget to the work of world missions.
